Why cleaning gutters is so important
Keeping your gutters clean is extremely important to maintaining the health of your entire house. It can help prevent roof leaks, foundation problems, and even protecting your landscape. Here are a few tips and tricks to help maintain your Clackamas home and prevent future problems, saving you thousands of dollars!
Preventative Maintenance
It is recommended, for the Portland and Clackamas area that you clean your gutters two times a year, in the spring and the fall. If there is a severe storm in the area it may be a good idea to have someone inspect the gutters and see if additional cleaning is needed.
Make sure downspouts are clean.
When weather starts getting cold, it can cause standing water to freeze which can cause leaks, breaks and an overflow of water on the roof. All damages that can usually be prevented with bi-yearly maintenance. Which saves you money in the long run.
Prevents Pest Issues
Debris build up can attract birds, rodents, and even pests. Keeping them clean can help prevent these friends from making your gutters their new home.
Protect your landscape
Did you know clogged gutters can damage your landscaping? If a gutter is clogged and overflowing, it can overwater your garden, or even damage any plants below.
Can I clean my own gutters?
Of course! If you are comfortable getting on a ladder and feel capable, go for it! There are a few supplies you will need to do it safely and efficiently. Here are a few we recommend: Extension ladder, standoff stabilizer, hand trowel, bucket, tarp, garden hose, spray nozzle, dust masks, rubber gloves, and goggles.
If you are working on this alone, make sure to tell someone. Either a neighbor, or family member. This way, they can check on you and make sure you are being safe. If you are uncomfortable leaning over the edge of your roof, you can also use a leaf blower or pressure washer to remove debris. This may cause more clean up afterward.
